20-21 Visual Arts Centre Scunthorpe first opened its doors in 2001. The venue shows around 20 exhibitions per year, across six exhibition spaces. 20-21 Visual Arts Centre Scunthorpe developed a great reputation for offering a varied and exciting exhibition programme of contemporary art. As well as bringing arts and culture to the local community in Scunthorpe, They also aim to show art by groups that are under represented in mainstream galleries and the art world.
Family fun is one of our main goals at 20-21 Visual Arts Centre Scunthorpe. As well as fun themed events and regular sessions for babies and toddlers, we have an activity table in the main gallery with weekly themed activities that families can work on together. 20-21 Visual Arts Centre is housed in St John’s Church a former grade II* listed church in Scunthorpe. The centre offers a regularly changing programme of contemporary art and craft exhibitions as well as related events and free creative activities for all ages.

You won’t experience anything like it on the high street! At 20-21 Visual Arts Centre Scunthorpe, offer a wide range of core workshops including: Shadow Puppetry this workshop has pupils and teachers becoming shadows in a shadow puppet performance. Take it Away clay This workshop is available all year round and focuses on exploring sculpture and methods used to create 3D objects, Observational Drawing This workshop focuses on specific drawing techniques where children explore the use of charcoal and pastels whilst being given still life display to study. 20-21 Visual Arts Centre Scunthorpe hosts a diverse programme of exhibitions across all six exhibition spaces and offers a number of opportunities for regional, national and international artists to exhibit or sell work. 20-21 is in the former St John’s Church situated in Church Square, between the end of Scunthorpe High Street, and Brigg Road. The entrance to the centre is in Church Square, in the new building to the right of the church clock tower. 20-21 Visual Arts Centre is a 15 minute walk from Scunthorpe railway station and a five minute walk from Scunthorpe bus station.20-21 has a family-friendly and fully accessible cafe, where we serve hot and cold meals, snacks, delicious cakes, freshly ground coffee, speciality teas and cold drinks – all at great prices! 20-21 Scunthorpe offer a wide range of tours you can do a self guided tour which are free.
Guided Tours From Only £20
A Guided tours which cost £20. A member of staff will take you around the gallery and give you additional information on the building and exhibitions. Both of the above can be enhanced by booking the Activity Table for £1 per child where they can create a piece of work relating to the exhibitions.20-12 Scunthorpe also offer core workshops and bespoke workshops. Starting from just £3.50 per pupil.
You can also book Artist Talk If you want to enrich your visit with a talk from an exhibiting artist, they will do their best to make a booking for you.
20-21 Scunthorpe has also recently completed a pilot project, working with a primary school in Immingham Scunthorpe to embed arts across the curriculum. The project included training 15 teachers at the beginning of summer term and delivering similar workshops to the whole school at the end of half term. The project proved very successful and cost effective for the school, Working with art and design teachers from KS1 and KS2, 20-21 have created three new loan packs to help you keep costs down, in school. Demonstrations on using any of the equipment can be arranged at an additional cost.
